About the Sacramento Region Community Foundation

The Sacramento Region Community Foundation is an advocate for quality of life, dedicated to connecting people who care with charitable causes.  An effective steward of the region’s charitable assets since 1983, the Foundation’s mission is to serve as a leader and trusted partner in expanding philanthropic activity and enhancing its impact for the betterment of our communities.  From charitable funds established by individuals, families, businesses and organizations, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation awards grants and engages in leadership activities to address a wide variety of current and long term community issues. 

  • Individuals, families, businesses and organizations give money or assets (such as real estate or stock) to the Foundation to establish a charitable fund. Many of the Foundation’s funds are endowments, which are permanent funds that are invested for growth thereby providing grants to the community for many years to come.
  • When establishing a fund, Foundation staff work with each donor to define a charitable mission, choose the most appropriate philanthropic vehicle, research local charities, monitor the impact of grants, maximize the tax advantages of giving, and perpetuate philanthropic goals in the years to come. The Foundation manages all tax, legal, and administrative details, giving donors the opportunity to focus on the rewards of giving.
  • The Foundation manages over 350 different funds and makes grants to nonprofit organizations from its charitable funds. During 2007, the Foundation and its generous donors awarded almost $8 million dollars in grants to hundreds of nonprofit organizations throughout Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado and Yolo counties. The Foundation also provided tuition assistance to over 1,000 local students by awarding a total of $1.2 million dollars in scholarships.
  • The Foundation tracks the effectiveness of its grants and scholarships, while also staying informed on community needs in the region.
