Grants Advisory Board for Youth
Grants Advisory Board for Youth (GABY) supports young people to engage in their community by sparking their interest in giving and taking action on issues that are important to them. Join with us to help make your community a better place by participating in this service learning experience.
GABY Awards 34 Local Youth Led Projects $500 Grants!
GABY awarded 34 grants of $500 each to youth-led projects in Sacramento. In an event at Sac State on January 30, 2010, youth teams presented their projects that showcased how they would serve others and their communities. Acting Lt. Governor Mona Pasquil inspired the crowd to “Be real and pass it on” and to dream of a future where they could make a difference. California Secretary of Food and Agriculture A. G. Kawamura remarked on the importance of their projects that focused on healthy eating and exercise as well as caring for the environment. The test of the work will be in the implementation in the next few months of these projects. GABY wishes “good luck” to all the youth teams as they motivate other youth to care and to strengthen their communities. Read more about the projects funded by GABY.
GABY 2.0- Join the Movement!
GABY supports young people in developing knowledge and participating in philanthropic efforts -- the importance of giving and sharing and taking action on issues that are important to them. GABY is guided by a board of 16 youth members who solicit, review, and make funding recommendations on proposals for youth-led projects. GABY allows youth to serve their communities while learning important skills about charitable giving, philanthropy and how to build stronger communities.
E-Learning!
GABY has launched an "e-learning course" that reaches hundreds of young people in the area. It aims to stimulate youth-led community action by providing a web-based platform to explore interests and teach skills to organize projects. Teams of youth can compete for $500 grants to support activities for their school, communities, and neighborhoods. This year's theme, living well, hopes to attract exciting projects on how teens can support positive change in themselves, schools, neighborhoods, and communities. The E-Learning course is made up of three interactive modules:
- Gift of Giving: Explore ways to give to the community and discover the causes you care most about.
- Learn to Serve: Inspire and build a team, commit to community service, and create change through a step-by-step interactive project planning process
- Grant Making for Living Well: Learn to articulate your vision and how to apply for grant funds. Once a year GABY provides $500 grants for youth-led projects that focus on living well. Proposals are due December 16, and all applicants will be required to present their porjects in person on January 30.
